Well maintained garden enhances property's appeal

Property owners who plan to sell their home in the future should keep their garden "quite simple", it has been advised.

Gardening expert and a presenter of BBC's Gardener's World Joe Swift said that green spaces should be kept "well maintained and looking good", suggesting that homeowners could bring in a garden designer to advise them.

She explained that a garden that was professionally designed was much more likely to enhance the appeal of a property than one that looked amateurish.

Ms Swift commented: "I think it's worth the investment of getting a garden designer to come round and give you a few ideas - you can often pay them by the hour for a sketch or two.

"Have something that looks like it's been well designed rather than plonked in, which is what a lot of amateurs tend to do in the garden."

She added that a lot of the money invested in a backyard tended to be on garden furniture.
