Property in France 'remains an essential investment'

France continues to represent a good location for those interested in overseas property investment, it has been claimed.

According to Trisha Mason, founder and managing director of VEF, "France remains as strong a favourite as ever" with UK buyers, representing an "essential part" of a foreign property portfolio.

However, she noted that the country's market was more suited to those investors who did not want to take any risks, owing to its stable nature.

Ms Mason commented: "Most British buyers of French property are planning to combine lifestyle with financial investment. In this respect France remains as strong a favourite as ever.

"The French property market has always been stable and has rarely been exceptionally interesting for hardcore investors who are prepared to take the risks to enjoy the potentially high capital growth which the emerging markets offer."

A report published in March by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) revealed that the French property market experienced a slowdown at the outset of last year.
