Portuguese property grows due to diversity
The diverse nature of the Portuguese property market is adding to its growing popularity as an overseas destination, experts have claimed.
According to Shelter Offshore, homes in Portugal can vary from traditional holiday properties to renovation houses on the Silver Coast.
Rhiannon Williamson, director of Shelter Offshore, claimed that the Algarve remained a popular choice, while other regions were experiencing a surge in demand.
She said: "In Portugal you can, of course, buy into the popular Algarve region and target the highest demand for tourism-based rental and experience prices on a par with those in Spain, but you will also be in a position to benefit from a year round tourism market because of the Algarve's out of season popularity with golf tourists."
Ms Williamson added: "You can also examine alternative investment approaches in Portugal, which may be more affordable for many people looking for a way in to overseas property.
"Consider investing in real estate requiring renovation, or exploring some of the recently emerging tourism hotspots like the Silver Coast, where prices have yet to rise as high as they are on the Algarve."
Meanwhile, according to research by NatWest International Personal Banking, some 90 per cent of people are financially better off after moving abroad.
