Northern Ireland property market set for growth

The property market in Northern Ireland is set for further growth in 2008, experts have claimed.

According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), while the rate of price increases will not match last year, house prices in the country will still see a modest rise.

Tom McClelland, a spokesman for the organisation, revealed that confidence in the sector was one of the driving forces of the growth.

He said: "Northern Ireland experienced massive house price growth in 2006 and 2007 driven by a perceived lack of supply, a burgeoning economy and investor enthusiasm.

"House prices grew rapidly from a low base, supported by increasing confidence in a society more at peace with itself and a strong jobs market," he added.

The Nationwide House Price Index reported a 24.2 per cent increase in house prices in 2006.
