Less rental demand outside of major cities
Buy-to-let property investment in smaller towns can be "tricky" when compared with major cities, due to differences in rental demand.
That is according to the property editor of BuyAssocation, who said that owing to the number of employment opportunities, large towns offered a high level of demand for rented accommodation.
Paul Collins explained: "In terms of buy-to-let investment, it can be tricky when you move further away from the big centres and employment because people tend to buy in those areas [outside of major cities]."
He asserted that buy-to-let investors may not have much success with smaller commuter based properties, although they might be able to rent out a family home.
Discussing commuter towns, Mr Collins added: "It's somewhere they'd like to buy, settle and spend a significant amount of time. They would probably be looking to buy, rather than rent."
Out of all the UK counties, Buckinghamshire offers the best quality of life according to Halifax's recently published Quality of Life Survey for Counties.
