Istanbul an increasingly attractive overseas property destination
People looking to invest in overseas property are viewing Istanbul as an increasingly attractive destination, it has emerged.
Ozgul Ozkan Yavuz, director of events and organisations for Istanbul 2010, said that property prices in the city were increasing as it looked to capitalise on its European Cultural Capital status in 2010.
"The property prices have been increasing," she said.
"It will be more valuable because there will be more demand from the international arena with more international artists being aware of Istanbul creating new artistic talents."
According to a report by Turkey's ministry of culture and tourism, the number of foreigners arriving in the country between January and September 2008 hit 21,500,000 — a 13.29 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
The 'European Capital of Culture' event gives European cities the chance to present a series of cultural programmes lasting for one year, which highlight the richness, diversity and shared characteristics of Europe's cultures.
