Energy Performance Certificates applauded by industry experts
Energy performance certificates will help house-hunters pick the most cost-effective properties and will allow landlords to make their investments more easily rentable.
That is the opinion of the Energy Savings Trust and the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), which have given positive feedback on the potential impact of the certificates.
Jon McGowan, an energy doctor from the Energy Saving Trust, and Peter Bolton King, chief executive of the NAEA, have suggested that people are looking at certificates when buying and selling properties.
Mr King said: "Landlords will start paying much more attention now that the Energy Saving Trust has launched today because for not much money you can make your property a lot more rentable or saleable."
Mr McGowan has said that the certificates will affect those selling property as well. He explained: "A poor energy performance certificate could lead to haggling on the price of a home."
All homes will be required to have an energy performance certificate from October 1st.
