'Carbon appeal' could replace 'kerb appeal'

Eco-homes could help keep the property market moving, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

In the current market, homes that have "greener features" are easier to sell and a survey has revealed that people may be prepared to pay more for them.

Jon McGowan, energy doctor at the Energy Saving Trust, said that "'carbon appeal' [is] set to replace 'kerb appeal' when it comes to swaying buyers.

He explained that the company’s research revealed that 53 per cent of all householders "would be willing to pay over £3,000 extra" for green features.

The Hidden Value Guide from the Energy Saving Trust revealed that some consumers would pay as much as £15,000 more to get an energy efficient home.

Mr McGowan has said that by generating their own power consumers are not only saving money on ever-increasing fuel bills but are also insulating their homes "more effectively".
