Canada emerges as popular holiday home destination

Canada has emerged as a popular choice among overseas property investors looking for a holiday home, it has emerged.

According to Christoper Chadd, head of research at Property Frontiers, a company dedicated to supporting overseas property investors, the fact that English is the country's first language does help people looking for property in the country.

"Our own research indicates that Canada is a very popular choice amongst our investors looking to purchase somewhere where they could visit maybe a couple of times a year for a holiday and I believe that the fact English is spoken as the first language does help Canada’s cause," Mr Chadd said.

Property prices are rising very slowly in Canada - they average £164,920 for 2008, with estimates from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation suggesting that the figure will rise to £165,100 in 2009.

Interestingly, a recent survey by Natwest revealed that Canada was the most likely destination for British expats to lose their sense of 'Britishness'.
