Brits abroad

Many Brits look to move to Australia because it seems like "a better choice for a far better overall lifestyle" which is great news for those thinking about emigrating or investing in property over there.

That is according to lifestyle magazine, ShelterOffshore.com, whose director Rhiannon Davies has said that Australia is "actively seeking" skilled Brits to relocate to the Southern hemisphere.

Ms Davies explained that Australia is more popular as a place to live rather than an investment opportunity.

She said: "The majority of Brits who are buying property in Australia are doing so to live in. Over the past five years there has been a 300 per cent increase in the number of Brits moving with 23,000 making the transition in 2006."

Affordable cost of living, a relaxed work environment and the weather are all cited as factors in the exodus across the pond.

A recent NatWest survey found that on average expats earned £67,000 compared to an average of £47,000 for their UK based counterparts.

The survey revealed that 68 per cent believed the cost of living was lower in the UK and 90 per cent considered themselves to be better off after moving away from the UK.
