AMI urges concerted campaign to show homeowners value of intermediaries
The mortgage industry needs to work together and put consumers first as people are increasingly looking to intermediaries to give them guidance. That was the conclusion reached at Wednesday's (June 11th) annual dinner of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI). Chris Cummings, director general of the AMI, has proposed a campaign to promote the value of mortgage advice to consumers. Mr Cummings said: "Our members provide mortgage advice that is wholly focussed on the individual consumer's needs. This means finding suitable products and providing high levels of customer service." Shadow financial secretary, Mark Hoban MP, praised the AMI's work and said there was no-on better than Chris Cummings and AMI chairman, the Rt Hon John Gummer MP to represent the interests of intermediaries. AMI research has revealed that in the first quarter of 2008 over 80 per cent of first-time buyers sought advice from an intermediary which was a ten per cent increase on the previous year.
