It is pretty difficult to categorically say what are the strangest houses in the world, but one thing is for sure, each and every one of the houses featured in this article is not your typical two up two down! Never afraid of something a little different, we say hurray for madness and down with mediocre!
1. This is the Spaceship House in Chattanooga in America. Although this house is one of the strangest looking places we have seen, the accommodation is surprisingly standard. The house boasts three bedrooms, two bathrooms and the usual reception rooms you would expect to find in a 2000 square foot property. The only difference really is that this house is suspended on six enormous cement pillars!
2. This is the world famous Shoe House in Pennsylvania, America. We’ve all read about the woman who lived in a shoe during our childhood, but did any of us actually believe it was true?! Again the accommodation is nothing too amazing to write home about with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room.
3. Unfortunately there are no interior pictures to go with this exterior shot of an upside down house in Japan. We’re still not sure whether this is just a standard house that has come a cropper in a particularly nasty storm, or indeed if it has been designed this way!
4. House number four is truly a sight to behold, and is every inch the architects dream. Unfortunately, rumour has it that the structure is now relatively unsound, so anyone trying to inhabit this house now would do well to stay on the ground floor!
5. Whoever designed this place must have been a basket case! Sorry, we couldn’t resist that one! This is indeed the basket building of Ohio in America which houses all of the workers for the company Longaberger. This company specialises in making baskets, and guess what? Their office building is a giant 180,000 square foot replica of their very own baskets!
6. Number six is the easy dome. These easy domes are designed and built by a Danish Architect called Kari Thomsen and they are apparently very quick and easy to erect, whilst the unique icosahedron shaped design means that they make the most of the space internally. I’m glad to hear that all is looking good inside, because things are decidedly strange on the outside!
7. Number seven is the toilet shaped house. This house was originally built by the founding member of the world toilet association, and judging by this, I would guess that he allowed his involvement take over his life somewhat! The house is called Haewoojae, which translated from Korean, means ‘A place of sanctuary where one can solve one’s worries’. Very apt indeed!
8. Number eight is perhaps the strangest of the lot. Apparently this house was built in honour of the owners wife’s love of travel, which is strange, given that the plane looks to have crash landed on top of the house! The whole house is designed in the shape of an aeroplane, and we are sad to say, a bit of an unrealistic looking aeroplane at that!
