Salamanca House is a beautiful and very interesting residential building designed by Wellington-based studio Parsonson Architects. This project was completed back in 2008, but the bold design lines and strong character of the house is still actively modern. Designed to fit on a steep lot, the new house comes to complete the original property encompassing a residential building designed and lived in by the Government Architect John Campbell in the early 1900’s.Displaying a zinc-clad roof and contemplative views of the harbor, this home is definitely a dream house.
Located in an old part of Wellington, New Zealand, the interesting home is the result of hard work and creativity. The site posed many problems – but these were turned into opportunities by the talented team of architects. The original house is historically listed and this forced the architects to construct the second construction as a subsidiary of the first one’s architecture, but at the same time, completing it from an architectural point of view. Thus the two story residence encompassing 2,400 square feet was cleverly designed to use as much of the space as possible to ensure a modern and relaxed lifestyle opposed to a cramped collection of living spaces. The result: the building’s structure utilizes the whole remaining space.
