The UK government has just launched a boiler scrappage scheme in England that offers property owners ?400 off the price of replacing a boiler.
The scheme will save homeowners money when an old boiler is replaced, and the Government believes it will also help reduce energy bills for homes. In addition, CO2 emissions will be curbed and employment bolstered by the scheme for households.
The scheme, which is costing the Government ?50 million, should benefit up to 125,000 property owners in England.
The financial incentive is open to individuals who own their house or to landlords who rent houses. However, boiler installers, housing associations and social landlords are not eligible for the scheme, BBC News has reported.
Eligible homeowners and landlords need to have a G-rated boiler in their properties to qualify. An estimated 3.5 million houses in England have this type of least-efficient boiler.
Homeowners below the age of 60 are only allowed to apply if the boiler in the property heats the house and is functioning properly. The boiler does not need to be working in homes owned by people aged over 60.
One individual who has had her boiler for over a decade and hopes to replace it using the scheme is Catherine Allinson, from Balham in south London. She told BBC News: ?My current boiler is pretty inefficient? I hope the new boiler will save me money in the long run, so it is worth the investment now, and with the boiler scrappage scheme, I should be able to get a little bit of money off the full cost of the boiler, so that will help.?
