GBP25m Building Linked to Beatles for Sale

The building on top of which the Beatles played for the last time has been put up for sale.

The former headquarters of the Beatles? Apple Corps at 3 Savile Row in London has been put on the market for ?25 million. It was bought by the band?s company for ?500,000 in the late Sixties.

It was on 30 January 1969 that the Fab Four of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr played songs from their last recorded album Let It Be on the rooftop ? their first live performance for almost three years.

The current owners are Kier Property, who are hoping to sell the building for office space, believe the Beatles connection will push up the value. The building also has a deeper history; built in 1735, it was once bought for his mistress, Lady Hamilton, by Lord Nelson.

Kier’s associate director, Leigh Thomas, said: ?It’s being marketed internationally. If someone wants a bit of heritage with a bit of history of the band, then this is the place. I still get goose bumps in here. It’s the world’s biggest piece of memorabilia.?

Tribute band the Bootleg Beatles had hoped to play on the rooftop on the 40th anniversary of the original performance, but were denied by police and council for safety reasons. Two of them did, however, manage to sneak up there to play two songs, One After 909 and Get Back (as played by the Beatles in 1969) before the police realised.
