I recently made up my mind to buy a house, but the one thing that has been troubling me is how will i decorate it, what will it say about me?. As a big True Blood fan i am always re watching all of series one and two and some of the things that really stand out i find are the deep south locations, the houses and locations really give you a wonderful insight into the characters and who they are. For example Bill’s house is as dark, brooding and melancholy as the vampire himself. Fangtastia is as wild and unpredictable in its decor as it’s owners Eric and Pam are and Sookies Grandmas house is just as wholesome and cluttered as poor Sookie Stackhouses mind.
Here are a collection of fantastic houses from the True Blood Series 1 through 3, to both inspire those wanting to change the look of their homes, and those looking to step into the dark side of themselves.
First is possibly my favorite house -
1. The home of Queen Sophie Anne of Louisiana
We are introduced to Queen Sophie’s palace and in particular her day room, when Bill goes to ask her for help regarding Maryann. Queen Sophie is a 1,100 year old vampire who is always impeccably dressed and well presented, almost as impeccable as her home.
2. The Hotel Carmilla in Dallas
In this Vampire hotel where Sookie had expected to have a wonderful time with Bill, but which left the lovers miles apart and Bill a prisoner of his maker in one of the Hotel Carmilla’s rooms. The hotel is very modern, with the typical vampire colors of black and red, the wall art that looks like tree roots is quite beautiful and the polished grey tiled floors add a sophisticated charm to the building.

4. Jason’s House?
Jason’s place is a bachelor pad through and through, beer fridge and lazy boy. It has that lovely tumbledown charm of his Grans house, blue painted porch finishing off the Southern shack style.
5. Maryann’s House?
We first experience the luxury of Maryann’s home through the eyes of Tara Thornton, it has extensive grounds and a wonderful pool with a Roman folly just across from it. It was this house that seduced Tara into Maryann’s world, that and meeting eggs.
6. Sookies Grans House?
For such a delicate little place this house has seen its fair share of horror, from the murder of it’s owner Adele Stackhouse, the devil worshiping hordes of Maryann Forrester, to vampire and werewolf battles. Grans place has a wonderfully charming style that anyone wanting to decorate could use ideas from, the porch is wide and surrounded by green foliage. It looks like a great place to sit out on and have a drink at the end of the day, although typically Sookie can be found mopping up blood from the porch floor after one of many battles.
7. Fangtasia Style home? r,
Not for the faint hearted, this style is for those who are not afraid to make a bold statement. Covered in Vampire propaganda art, red lights and red walls Fantasia could never be accused of being subtle. This place has seen the final moments of Longshadow after he tried to attack Sookie and was killed by Bill, the capture and torture of Russell Edgington the Vampire King of Mississippi and the pulsing heart of the Mississippi V trade nightly within its walls.
8. Reverend Steve Newlin’s Church
Probably one of the most beautifully constructed buildings in the TV show, the Fellowship of the Sun church has an abundances of decorating and design styles for anyone wanting to go for a more minimalistic touch. Its wood roof and huge rooms lend itself more to the design of a larger home, but some of the features such as the crisscrossed wooden windows, the amount of light from the glass ceiling and the use of under lighting in the doorways could be used in a smaller place.
9. Hoyt Fortenberrys Home?
These little places only appear in a few episodes, Hoyt and his mother are seen in the living and dining room of the cottages, and this gives you some idea just how small they are. The cottages also appeared as the stage for the first murders in season 1 with the deaths of Maudette Pickens and Dawn Green at the hands of Rene Lenier. The little place has a nice little slatted wood porch roof, hanging creeper plants and white picked fence, ideal for someone looking to develop that Southern shack look these would be perfect.
10. The King of Mississippi’s Mansion?
One of the grandest homes in True Blood, even more so than that of Queen Sophie, the house of Russell Edgington and his lover Talbot. The house is immaculate due to Talbot’s obsession with design and collection of artifacts. Filled with antiques, teak wood furniture, beautiful hand made rugs, luscious drapes and giant center piece fire places in every room. I will definitely be utilizing Talbots style in my own home, with the use of old french furniture and handmade drapery.
11. Sam Merlott’s Bar?
OK, its a bar but it’s a close to Sam Merlott’s home as anything, we are first introduced to Merlott’s in episode one when Sookie meets Bill for the first time, it then features in almost every episode as the center point to Bon Temps. Designing with Merlott’s in mind would mean and understanding of wood, what type and just how much is over kill. The walls of the bar are an unusual slate stone and decorated with flame symbols, the use of a dark oak flooring would work in any larger home and even the idea of the use of a neon sign to add a bit of an edge to your kitchen perhaps.

14. Lafayettes House?
Lafayettes house needs a certain person, someone not afraid to experiment with style, while still questioning their spiritual ideals. The house is small and has a Bedouin tent feel about it, clutter is beautiful here as it borders into the eclectic. To decorate like this would mean buying up old furniture to alter of convert with the use of fabrics or lots of throw cushions. It has a Persian feel about it with a bizarre over use of religious imagery that make the icons more an art statement than an actual proof of belief.
13. Bill Comptons House?
I left this house until last as it is my absolute favorite, Bills home is first introduced to us in Series one when her returns home after centuries of being away. It looks like a typical Southern mansion from the outside, sturdy stone steps up to a large oak door. Huge blue wooden shutters across the front and a long stretch porch across the second floor. Inside it has an as almost British charm to it, a big black curved fireplace sat on a decrepit looking paint flaked wall. Red velvet looking furniture and teak look old chairs. the bedroom features a wonderful sculpted high poster bed, light wood flooring, dark walls and light drapes.

I truly love this article. Thanks for the recap on the homes and ideas….
What happened to the contractors Bill was supposed to be hiring to fix up the house in Season 1? No improvements seem to have been made to the house. Still has peeling paint (probably lead-based) all over its walls and gas lamps. It truly makes me depressed everytime a scene is in there. I understand that it fits Bill’s brooding and depression about being a vampire, but with Jessica now living there, I had hoped it would be made less decrepit-looking.
